Feline Wellness Care
Cats need regular wellness care too!
At Van Meter Veterinary Clinic, we believe that your cat’s best health starts with wellness care. Feline wellness care includes an annual or bi-annual comprehensive exam, vaccinations, nutritional counseling, behavioral counseling, and parasite prevention. The wellness exam allows our veterinarians to get an overall look for any outwardly visible signs of disease. This is the most important aspect of any wellness visit. Whether it is your kitten’s first exam or your senior cat’s 20th visit with us, every wellness exam will include a comprehensive evaluation of your cat’s current health. During your cat’s wellness exam, we will discuss all your at-home observations and answer any questions you may have about any issues that may be affecting your cat, including lifestyle or age-related changes.
if your cat is ill, we may recommend further testing for your cat. Our clinic has full diagnostic capabilities, including blood testing on site, microscopic evaluation of samples, specialized tests sent to a local lab with quick turnaround times and digital x-ray.
Feline Vaccinations
A vital part of maintaining your cat’s health is keeping your cat’s vaccinations current. We recommend vaccinating your cat according to the current AAHA/AAFP guidelines for feline vaccines. Vaccinations prevent your cat from getting contagious diseases that are easily spread between cats. We will take into consideration your cat’s risk factors into account, such age, overall health, and lifestyle. These factors may change over time, so we will review your cat’s vaccination plan with you at each wellness exam.
Preparing for Your Cat’s Exam
On the day of your cat’s wellness exam, we ask that you bring in a stool sample (ideally less than twelve hours old) with your cat in a secure pet carrier. If this is your cat’s first visit with us, it is also helpful to bring any previous medical files such as vaccination records.
