Pet Surgery

The veterinary team at Van Meter Veterinary Clinic take pride in providing the best possible surgical pet care.  When your pet needs surgery, you can rest assured knowing that our team have the training and experience to perform simple, routine procedures like spaying and neutering, as well as more complicated and complex soft-tissue surgeries. Your pet will receive the most tender care and attention, in the most respectful and loving manner, while having surgery with us. One of our team members will keep you updated so that you know how your pet is doing.

Prior to your pet’s surgical procedure, your pet will receive a thorough examination.  We also recommend a blood test to be sure that your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia. While in surgery, our team keeps a close eye on your pet, constantly monitoring his or her vital signs, blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, respiratory functions, and oxygen levels.

After surgery during recovery, we continue to monitor your pet and make sure that he or she is as comfortable and pain free as possible. Your pet will receive the appropriate pain management medication (if needed) and any other medication required.   When your pet is ready to go home, we will talk with you about the discharge instructions, any medications and walk you through the expected recovery rate, any behavioral changes that may occur in the days following the surgery, and what to expect from your pet.
